Chapter 121

I'm so sorry, I'm doing such a crappy job at this lately

Tuesday after work Melody left her car in the underground parking lot of the hotel. She had scheduled a viewing for the apartment she liked so much at 5.20pm. Google maps had told her it was only a 10 minute walk. She checked for the time and started her walk.

Along with searching for the town she also copied a small map from the internet but she thought she knew the area well enough to find it without any help at all.

At the end of the block, she turned left and followed the block until the end where she turned right, looking up to see a street name, she saw she was going the right way. One more turn and there she saw the realtor waiting outside the building.

“You must be Melody Walker.” She was greeted.
“Yes I am.” Melody looked up at the building, she liked the building itself, it wasn’t anything special but she didn’t need anything special.
“Let’s go inside.” The lady opened the door for Melody and lead her to the elevator, once inside she pressed the button for the third floor.

It didn’t take long and a moment later they stood in a hallway with two doors. Melody liked that she would still have a neighbour.

The lady opened the door to the apartment and they both stepped inside.

“To that way there are two bedrooms, the rest are upstairs.”
“There’s an upstairs?” Melody asked surprised, she hadn’t expected that and was sure she hadn’t read it on the website either.
“Yes but it’s small, just the bedrooms.”

The other side of the hallway lead them to the kitchen with a separate dining room. Melody liked everything so far, from the colour of the kitchen wall to the brightness of the rooms. The living room, she liked even more, it was a decent size, except for the terrace, it would still be perfect.

The realtor led her back to the hallway where the bedrooms were and where they found a staircase. Upstairs were two more bedrooms and another full bathroom like the one next to the kitchen. The size of the extra bedroom disappointed her. Before it had been used as an office space, there wouldn’t fit much more than a bed and a wardrobe. It was quite small to be a bedroom. Luckily she hadn’t told the kids about it yet since Robert had to talk to them first about it.

They finished their tour and once outside, Melody shivered. It was the middle of May, it wasn’t really cold but she shivered. She said goodbye and promised to let something know in a week from now.

On her way home she was pretty sure she was going to take it. Even though the bedroom and the terrace outside the living room were quite disappointing, the location and size was perfect.

When she arrived home she realized today was also Jon’s last day at home, tomorrow morning he was leaving again. She had hardly seen him when he was home but she thought he needed the time for his children too. She’d get her time with him later.

Later that night she phoned him up, to ask his opinion. If she couldn’t live with him, he’d be very glad to have her that close to him. He could even go over and surprise her.

Melody would love to live with him but how would it work with eight children? Even though two were off to college in a few months. Months, they’d only been together for a few months, five months. Wasn’t five months too early to move in together? She knew she loved him and that she never wanted anybody else anymore, she just wanted him. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Or was five months too soon to feel or want that?

In only a few weeks she’d be with him for two months. Every day, exactly like she wanted. She doubted she could say goodbye and go to her own home after two months with him.

All that thinking gave her a headache. She said goodnight to Jon and made him promise he’d phone tomorrow as soon as he arrived at his hotel. Hoping sleep would help her headache, Melody went to bed.

The next morning she woke up with the same headache, only it had changed to a pressure headache. Not again, not another cold. Reluctantly she got out of bed and went to get ready. She her kids and work after all.

By noon she was sure it was another cold. She never got sick, last month had been the first time in years. She had heard that people that don’t get colds often, get them worse. She always believed it to be an old wives tale. Maybe those old wives were right after all. Hopefully it wasn’t true for her.

During lunch she drank some hot tea, hoping it would make her feel better a little. After her first cup she got her phone call from Jon, telling her he arrived safely at the hotel.

After Faith was put to bed, Melody decided to turn in early herself. The headache hadn’t gone away all done and in the afternoon a couch started building too, at least it wasn’t as bad as last week, it could be worse.

Only two more days at work and she’d have the weekend to start feeling better.

Instead of waiting up for Jon’s call after the concert, Melody turned out the lights in her room and snuggled between her pillows and sheets. Right now she wanted Jon, how he had cared for her last time. Perfectly warm next to her, that’s how she wanted him. She took his pillows but was disappointed they didn’t smell like him anymore.

The next morning Melody found her phone had three missed calls and the same amount of text messaged. She had slept through all Jon’s calls.

Even though she had gotten a full night’s sleep, she still felt bad.

While she was reading the messages her phone started ringing. Startled by the sound and the change of screen it took her a second to press the button to answer the call.

“Hey.” She was surprised how hoarse her voice sounded.
“Good morning, you alright babe?” He asked worried after she hadn’t answered his phone calls the night before.
“Yeah, I’m al-” But she had already lost the rest of her voice.
“You sure don’t sound like it. Did you catch another cold?”
Melody sighed tiredly. “I think so.”
“I hope you take the rest of the week off then. You need to rest.”
“I can’t.” Her voice still sounded hoarse, but not worse.
“You should.” He insisted, he knew she should, he was only worried about her.
“I can’t.”
“Fine.” Jon knew she could be as stubborn as he was. “At least stop talking and save that voice and listen to me. I was thinking last night and got an idea. After next week when this part of the tour is over school is out too. So I was thinking to take everyone to the Jersey house before us two go to Europe.”
“Two weeks?” She asked, liking the idea already even if it was one week.
“Yeah.”
“Sounds good.” Melody agreed to his idea. “I still have to work then.”
“I know but it would still be fun, maybe you can take a few days off anyway.” Before she could say she couldn’t, he went on. “Now go to back to sleep.” He ordered.
“I can’t.”
“Okay.” He really didn’t want to argue about it, it could be endless like the issue about painkillers. He wasn’t bringing that up too. “I am, since I’ve only slept 4 hours. Please don’t make yourself feel worse.”
“I’ll do my best.” Melody promised.
“Feel better soon, love you.”
“Love you too. Phone me tonight?” She asked a little uncertain he might not want to phone after all the missed calls last night.
“Of course.”
“Good night, more like sleep tight, since it’s morning not night.” She said.
Jon chuckled. “Thanks.”

Melody do what Jon suggested and go back to bed. If I were you I would go see a doctor they might be able to give you something to make you feel better. After all, you don't want anything to mess up your time with Jon.

You are doing fine with this story so relax : )
