Chapter 114

“Oh come on pick up.” Melody muttered as she disconnected the call she had just made and pressed the button to redial. She could hear the dial tone and hoped that the third time really was the charm.

“Melody?” Came a quiet, hoarse whispered answer.
“Jon, can you get on your laptop. I need to talk to you face to face.” She said in a hurry.
“Baby, it’s… 6am.”
“Jon, please come online.” She couldn’t hold back the tears anymore and it was obvious is her voice as she pleaded him to go online.
“Mel, what’s wrong?” He asked worried when he heard the distress in her voice.
“Please just come online, I need to see you.” She almost begged him while tears started to roll over her cheeks again, she had just pulled herself together again and now she was crying again.
“Alright, alright, I’m coming.”

She could hear him get up and move around his room.

“My laptop is starting, I’ll call you back on there, okay?”
Melody nodded. Then realized he couldn’t see her. “Okay.” She managed to say.
“I’m gonna hang up here then.” He said carefully, not wanting to upset her even more.
“Okay.” Melody agreed again and took the phone away from her ear to hang up.

She reached to the end of her bed where her laptop was already waiting and pulled it closer to her. She sat crossed leg in front of it with a pillow in her lap, watching the screen to tell her he was online.

It online took a few minutes and the little screen popped up, a call was followed immediately after.

Melody clicked the green button to accept his call.

Jon was also sitting in his bed, his laptop on his lap. He could see her tearstained cheeks with more tears following.

“Now please tell me what’s wrong.” He pleaded this time. He could clearly see she was very upset and he didn’t want her to feel like that.

Melody wiped away the tears that had formed in her eyes again.

“Mel?” He asked again.

She sniffed and cleared her throat, trying to be able to speak.

Jon didn’t urge her again and waited for her to compose herself before speaking.

Melody took a deep breath, “I got my period.” When she said it, more tears followed.
“Oh Melody, baby.” He didn’t know what to say.

They talked about the uncertainly of it all yesterday evening, only eight hours ago but he had been a little excited about it, hoping there’d be a little one again.

Melody sniffed again, “I know I shouldn’t have but I had this little hope of a baby.” She explained.
“I had the same hope.” He said, followed by a sigh. “I wish I could hold you right now.” He tried to comfort her with the little possibilities he had.
“I’d love for you to be here right now.” She wiped away the tears that once ran down her cheeks, she just couldn’t stop. Being held in his strong arms would make her feel much better now.

“Are you working today?” He hoped she didn’t her stomach aches last night obviously weren’t from eating too much. Was she still in pain right now?
Melody shook her head. “No, I called in sick. It still hurts.” She admitted.

Jon was a little relieved, at least she could rest. He didn’t want her to work right now, she looked fragile. “Good, you need to rest. You should go back to bed.” It was still early, now that he was in Canada their time difference was gone and it was 6am for Melody too. He guessed she had just gotten up for work.

She really didn’t want to go back to sleep, she wanted to see him, be with him.

She watched Jon move on the bed, he took his laptop of his lap and went to lie down his side, then placed his laptop in front of him so she could still see him and he could still see her.

“Come on, lay with me.” He padded his bed next to her.

A little smile formed on Melody’s lips, he was so sweet. Melody moved her laptop and lied down with him.

“I’m sorry I woke you up so early.” Melody said when she was settled.
Jon chuckled. “You can wake me up whenever you need me.”
“Are you sure? Don’t you have to work tonight?” She didn’t want to be the reason that he didn’t get enough rest.
“No,” He shook his head, “tomorrow.”

They just watched each other for a while until Jon saw the tiredness and sadness on Melody’s face take over again.

“Go to sleep Melody.” His tone was almost a fatherly order.
Melody stretched and closed her eyes. “Good night.” She said.
“Good night.”

He watched her until he was sure she was asleep.

When she didn’t answer him anymore, he disconnected the call and shut down his laptop. It was almost 7am but now and he knew he didn’t want to go back to sleep.

Instead he picked up his phone and made a call, “Matt?”

I wish she would have been pregnant I think it would add more to the storyline. Me thinks Jon is going to fly home to be with Melody right now, that way he can hold her in his arms and comfort her. I like how you resolved the possible baby angle, for now anyway : )
