Chapter 6

On Monday Melody had a normal day of work, it was busy at the hotel but then again, it was always busy at the hotel. It was in the middle of New York so there always were lots of tourists to come and go.

When she got home from work, she started making dinner for her and her kids. Just when she was about to bake the meat her cell phone went off.
“Hey.” She answered without looking at the caller ID but already knowing who it would be anyway.
“Hey, how was your day?” He asked her casually.
“My day was ok, the usual,” She said, “but I’m cooking and I need both hands so I’m putting you on speaker phone now.” She pressed the speaker phone button on her phone and put it down on the kitchen counter next to her cooking.

“How was your day?” She asked him while putting meat in a heated  pan.
“The same, the usual.” He said.
“What is your usual?” She asked him wondering what he actually did in a day.
“Getting up, breakfast, work out and had a meeting in the afternoon. That’s a pretty calm day for me.” He said.
“That’s calm? Working out isn’t calm at all.”
“Yes, it is, it’s relaxing." He protested. "No thoughts on anything but running for an hour.” He explained to her.
“Sure, if you put it that way.” She said sarcastic not agreeing at all, she didn’t like work outs, she didn’t do any of it and she was completely fine with it being that way. She could hear him laugh at her tone when she said it.

“What about tomorrow? What are you doing?” She asked him.
He had to think for a second, mentally looking over his schedule. “Nothing at all. How about you?”
She didn’t have anything planned other than work and she wanted to tell her children she went on a few dates. “Just work and after that I’m having a talk with my children.” She said calmly, waiting to see what he would say.
“What are you talking about with them?” He didn’t want to ask it straight forward but he thought he knew what she meant.
“I’m just telling them I went on a few dates. I told you I tell my kids about these things.”
“But we’ve only been on 3 dates.” He said.
“Is it going to stay at 3 dates?” She asked him a little worried now.
“No!”

Melody let out a sigh of relief. “Then I want to tell them.” She said relieved and he gave in noticing he couldn’t change her mind and it were her kids after all. They talked for some more and no kids came running in while she was talking. Which she thought was a good thing because she hadn’t told them yet.

After a few more minutes they hung up and Melody started to serve dinner. The kids talked about their time at their dad’s house during dinner and hours after that until they all went to bed. Finally she thought. Every Monday was a busy talking day. Her children had to tell her everything in fine detail.

Tuesday went quite the same, work had been busy. When she got home she didn’t start on dinner yet because Tyler wasn’t home yet. So she gathered the other 3 in the living room and decided to tell them she was dating. When they all sat down, she started “You all told me about your week yesterday so today I’m telling you about my week.”

They looked at her not saying a thing but just waiting, so she decided to go on. “On Tuesday I went on a date with a guy I met at Uncle Dan’s cd store and on Saturday and Sunday we went out again.” She stopped and waiting for some reactions now.
“What’s his name?” Was the first reaction that came. She told them a little bit about Jon, not mentioning yet it was Jon Bon Jovi and they agreed it was great their mum was dating again, they hoped it would be a great thing for her.

She sent them off to do their homework and went to make dinner when Jon phoned again.
“You’re really good at phoning me when I’m cooking, aren’t you.” She said when she answered the phone.
“Do you want me to call back later?”
“No, not at all. You’ll just have to go on speaker phone.” They talked about their days when Faith walked in with a question about her homework. She noticed she interrupted a conversation and froze next to the fridge not sure what to do.
“Jon, give me a few minutes apparently I have to do English homework.” Jon waited and could hear Faith ask if that was her mums date.

When her mum told her he was Faith walked over to the phone that was lying on the counter and said “Hi, I’m Faith.”
Jon chuckled and answered her, “Hi Faith, I’m Jon. How are you?”

Melody let Faith talk to Jon for a minute before she sent her back up to her room to finish her homework. Melody talked to Jon while she cooked. She liked having him on speaker phone that way it seemed like he was just in the next room, close by.

Next week Melody would be home alone again and asked if Jon was busy then.
“Our tour starts on Thursday, Wednesday I have to go to the White House and Tuesday I’m filming, but I’m free on Monday.”
“Your tour starts?” She asked sounding disappointed, she had hoped to see him before the tour started, and she had thought they started the week later. “When are you back home?” She hoped he wouldn’t take too long.
“March tenth.” He said, he could hear her letting a breath out.
“A whole month?” She asked surprised, she wanted to see him sooner than that. “Then I don’t get to see you till March second.” She had bought tickets for that concert, because she knew birthday concerts were always more special, she would have loved to go to the Valentine’s concert too but she couldn’t go to Canada for a concert.

"You're coming to the show?" Jon asked surprised.
"Me and Lori have been planning for ages." Melody said. "Didn't I tell you?"
“No, you didn't. We’re playing in New York the 24th and 25th.” He said, “Maybe you can come for those too.” He didn’t want to wait till his birthday to see her.

She agreed it would be a great idea but she didn’t have money to buy tickets. He laughed and told her to not worry about it she’ll get access all areas anyway. “Now what about Monday?” He asked her. “Do you still want to do something?”
Of course she wanted to do something although she didn’t really want to go anywhere.
“Why don’t I pick you up after work and we can go to my apartment and watch a movie?” He asked her.
"Yeah that's a good idea." She turned her stove off, food was ready. "My supper is ready, I have to go now."
"Ok, talk to you later." He said.

Yeah, talk. Melody thought when they hung up, it's how their relationship went, talking on the phone.

The next few days went fast for Melody. The children all had their sports and activities in the second half of the week, so she was very busy driving around 4 kids. Jon still phoned her every evening. He told her about his week, how filming and tour preparations were going.

On Thursday night she left her kids home alone for a while and went to Lori’s house. She knocked on the door and went inside. Lori met her in the living room, they sat down and Melody started telling her she wouldn’t see Jon for 10 days after Monday. She stuck to the idea that they’ve only been on 3 dates and she couldn’t possibly like him this much after 3 dates. But she did, she did like him this much and couldn’t wait to see him on Monday, it only had been a week since she saw him but it seemed so much longer to her. Lori agreed with her but then again, what’s not to love about him. They already knew he was a wonderful person and his looks just added to it.
