Chapter 111

Jon stuck to his promise and as usual he phoned Melody when she was busy. She was just preparing dinner when her phone started ringing.

“Hello.” She said a little absentmindedly.
“Are you home yet?” He asked a little confused.
“Yeah, I just started making dinner. Did you get to New Orleans ok?” She asked in return.

Jon told her how his flight was, while Melody walked over to the kitchen table to sit down. He had only landed a few minutes ago and hadn’t even left the airport but phoned her first because he knew she’d worry as she always did. It was just the motherly instinct in her, he knew that.

Melody in turn told him about her own day while he got in a car that drove him to the hotel.

It felt just as normal as two months ago when they talked on the phone almost all the time. She knew if they would video chat it would almost be the same as talking at home.

In the morning Jon had a listening session for his job with the government, he looked forward to listening to what everyone would have to say and how he could help them in the end. After this session he only had one more to do which was luckily closer to home.

He didn’t have a chance to talk to Melody in the morning as she would be at work already when he would get up. At least he was taking her with him for the bigger time differences, now she was only one hour ahead.

Melody looked forward to Jon’s session too and all the concerts, she knew pictures would show up on Facebook. That way she could see him, even when he didn’t have time to be on his laptop and she absolutely loved him in his stage clothes.

Melody expected his phone call as she got out of the car; it was always the moment he’d phone but now nothing. She found it a little weird but went inside, kicked off her shoes and joined the kids in the living room.

An hour later she started to wonder, he only had to work in the morning. The session would be over by 2, 3 at the latest, so where was he? She tried not to worry, she knew she shouldn’t. He was a grown man, he didn’t exactly have to call her every day but she liked it and looked forward to it every evening. Of course she could phone him herself but she never knew when he was busy or not so left it to him.

She got up from the couch and went to the kitchen, remembering that he phoned her while she cooked too, just like last night, maybe he’d phone now.

But as she was setting the table there was still no phone call, she tried to shake it off, he was just very busy.

The rest of the evening Melody spent time with her kids. She helped Faith with her homework. She enjoyed it; it was nice to spend time with just them.

After homework they watched tv, Faith cuddled up on the couch with her while the boys picked out a comedy show double to watch. She hadn’t held her little girl in her arms for weeks. Lately she was busy being held by Jon.

When it was time for bed, Melody went upstairs with Faith and read her a story before giving her a kiss and hug goodnight.

Downstairs in the living room the boys had changed the channel and Melody joined them again.

Even though she was glad to spend some time with her children so they were able to talk about things, she began to wonder once again where Jon was. She hadn’t thought of him again after dinner while she was enjoying herself but now he wandered back in her mind.

Finally when she went to bed she looked for Jon in her contacts and phoned him. After a few rings he picked up.
“Hey.” His answer was short and distant, as if he was busy with something else.
“Hey, are you alright?” Melody asked confused and worried.
“Oh fuck, I forgot to phone you.” He realized.
“Yeah, I was getting a little worried.”
“I’m sorry honey, I didn’t get to finish until 2, then when I got back to the hotel the guys had arrived and they wanted to go to the festival and after that we went out for dinner. I’m not even back at the hotel yet.” He quickly explained his day to her.
“You’re still at a restaurant?”
“We didn’t get here until 9. I’m so sorry I forgot to phone, I didn’t mean to.” He apologized
“It’s alright; I’ll let you have your dinner.” Melody suggested, it was 11pm already and with his appetite he’d be starving.
“No, no,” Jon insisted, “I have time to talk; we’re waiting for dessert anyway. How was your day?”

Melody told him about her day with her children, how nice it was to spend time with just them even though she was worried where he was, he apologized again for not phoning. Melody asked Jon about his day and he started telling her about the festival. It was a three day music festival and there was a fair. He had loved seeing the performances in the afternoon and evening. Melody understood how he forgot to phone, he loved music, he had a great afternoon and she couldn’t blame him for forgetting.

Finally Jon’s dessert arrived so he had to get back to his table. They said good night and Jon promised to phone tomorrow before the show and told Melody to phone him if he forgot again.

Melody decided she had to find something to do. She had her job during the week but she couldn’t wonder constantly where he was, she had to do her own thing.

She decided she’d spent the next day with the kids again, knowing the boys would be working, she could take Faith out shopping, have a mommy daughter day. They hadn’t done that in a long time and she liked the idea of.

She shouldn’t rely on Jon phoning her every day, they were both grown people, they had to live their own lives even though they wanted to do it together. Next week she’d spent at his apartment so she would be closer to him in a way.

I smell trouble brewing if Jon keeps forgetting to call Melody. I understand that they are both adults with busy lives, but still they need to stay in touch even if it's only a 5 minute phone call. Oh and I love the pic of Jon..he is just so gorgeous*sigh*. Really enjoyed the chapter Pirate.
