Chapter 13

Just like Jon had promised a driver got to the hotel at 6pm on Thursday. He walked up to the front desk of the hotel and asked for Melody. When Melody got to the desk, he introduced himself as Chris and told Melody he was driving her to the Garden tonight. Melody got her things together and checked out. The driver was holding the car door open for her when she walked outside. She got in the car and started getting a little bit nervous. She almost expected it would be a limo but now she was glad it wasn’t, as it would bring a lot of attention with it. Only 15 minutes later they got there. Melody got out of the car and asked Chris if there was a place where she could quickly change before meeting Jon. She had packed a bag with clothes for the concert as she didn’t want to wear her work clothes. He showed her to an empty bathroom and waited outside for her. Melody went inside and looked around. It was more like a dressing room; it had a big mirror with a chair in front of it. Behind the white painted door she assumed there was a bathroom. She went to check it out and she was right. She used the toilet. Oh shit! She thought when she sat down. She started calculating in her head while reaching for her bag. She wasn’t supposed to get her period till Sunday! Melody hated being early, she tried to think when she last took the pill and remembered she had forgotten since Monday. How could she have been so stupid? She’d been excited to see the concert but that forgetful that her brain went mushy? She couldn’t believe herself. It seemed like since she met Jon she kept forgetting things. She got up and went back to the bigger room. Then Melody quickly changed into a pair of black tight jeans and put on a red top. She looked at herself in the mirror and finger combed her hair, she didn’t put any make-up on cause it was something she usually only wore for work. Her works clothes were pushed back in the bag she had carried and she left the bathroom.

Chris gave her a backstage pass and she put it around her neck. He brought her to Jon’s dressing room and told her to knock. They heard some noise inside so Christ decided Jon was inside and left Melody alone. After Christ had left, Melody knocked on the door. Almost instantly Jon opened the door. He pulled her inside and kissed her deeply. Melody locked her arms behind his neck and kissed him back. He finally pulled back and said, “I’ve missed you babe.” before kissing her again. Melody couldn’t be happier, the way he welcomed her was the perfect way. She knew her forgetfulness was forgiven. Jon finally let her go and looked into her eyes. “It’s so good to see you.” He said, Melody could see the happiness in his eyes.”I’ve missed you too.” Melody said still looking into his heavenly blue eyes. She hugged him and rested her head on his chest. It felt good to be close to him, until his stomach growled. “Dinnertime.” He said and Melody agreed. They looked around the dressing room for food but there was nothing on the table. “Ready to meet some people then?” Jon asked her and Melody nodded knowing they would have to leave the room in search of food. Jon took Melody’s bag and put it with his stuff so it wouldn’t get lost. He guided her out of the dressing room with his hand on the small of her back. He pulled the door closed and they walked through the hall. He pointed out everyone’s dressing rooms as they passed by.
“Oh right, do you know me yet?” He asked referring back to their first date when Melody had pretended not to know him.
“No, this is just our 4th date and you’re taking me to a concert.” Melody explained to him like he just asked what they were doing.
“Front row at the Garden on a 4th date? I must really like you then.” He concluded.
Melody had to smile. “I hope you do, cause I really like you.” She said, he took her hand instead and intertwined their fingers as an answer.

They were at the end of the hallway and Jon pulled the last door open to a bigger room with rows of tables with food. Jon ignored anyone that greeted him and went straight to where plates and cutlery were placed on the table. He handed Melody a plate and started putting a bit of everything on his plate. Melody had to laugh at the amount of food on his plate. Jon made a face when he noticed she took a tuna salad sandwich and Melody had to laugh even harder. Jon took some napkins and they went to join the other people at the tables. Melody noticed all their shirts said local crew. Jon made small talk with the people around them and introduced Melody as his friend. Melody felt her heart sink when he did. Friend? Just friend? She thought Not even as date? Melody felt sad and then it struck her. Of course he didn’t introduce her as his date, who would take their date to work? It were all local crew people, he wouldn’t tell them something that personal before telling anyone else. She felt silly for jumping to conclusions that fast, she relaxed and tried to forget it while finishing her dinner. Jon said goodbye to everyone and they went on their way back to the dressing room when they ran into David.
“Hey man, did you finally get that set list?” He asked him.
“Yeah, you really want to open with Last Man Standing?” David asked Jon worried and Jon answered positively.
“Absolutely. Oh and Dave, meet my date Melody here.” Melody smiled and shook David’s hand. She was happy she thought right and felt relieved being introduced as his date instead of as a friend to one of his best friends.
“Nice to meet you. Is this your first concert?” David asked her.
“No, this is my…” Melody had to think, she wasn’t all too sure anymore.
David had to laugh. “That many times?” He asked.
Then Melody remembered. “66” She said, happy to remember. She always knew when someone asked but now being backstage with band members made her brain go mushy again. David said goodbye as he needed to get ready and Melody and Jon continued to the dressing room.
“66 concerts and you don’t know me?” Jon asked her, feigning disappointment. “That’s really bad for my reputation.”
Melody had to laugh. “Well, you still haven’t told me your bands name.” She explained.
“Bon Jovi.” Jon said playing along with her.

“Oh my god!” Melody screamed and Jon looked confused. “I’m backstage at a Bon Jovi concert?!” She continued. Just then Richie looked out of his dressing room to check all the screaming. He noticed Melody jumping excitedly next to Jon, Jon was still looking confused. Not sure how to react. “You got yourself a crazy fan there.” Richie told him. Melody had to laugh again and told Jon she was just joking. “No, just a crazy date.” Jon answered Richie and continued to introduce them. They shook hands as Richie asked if she was the reason Jon kept kicking him out of his dressing room around 5 or 6. Melody confirmed that she probably would be the reason. Richie excused himself to continue to get ready. Melody and Jon went into the dressing room across Richie’s. Jon looked at what his wardrobe lady had put on the clothes rack and took 3 shirts off. Deciding which one to wear and excused himself to the bathroom. Thinking he had better manners than getting changed in front of his date. When he came back out Melody nodded her appreciation. Jon took his two other shirts, swung them over his shoulder and they left to go to the stage. The rest of the band was already out in the hall. Jon quickly introduced Melody to the rest before saying it was show time.

They all walked to the stage together and Jon started punching some wall on the way there. He put his two other shirts in his quick stage room and called over one of the crew members. He explained to Melody he would take her to her seat and bring her back afterwards. The rest of the band went on the stage and they could hear the audience screaming. Jon gave Melody another melting kiss before he let her go. She was escorted to her seat by the man Jon had appointed and took her seat. It was right in front of Jon’s mike stand, the perfect place to be on a date.

I like this down-to-earth version of Jon. Good story, but I'm so bummed for her to have her period. I would have been in tears if that were me.
