Chapter 15

As soon as Melody stepped in the car and relaxed she felt exhausted. She had been up for 18 hours and would love to crawl into her bed but she still had an hour car ride ahead of her. Chris didn’t start a conversation and she was almost happy he hadn’t, she felt too tired to talk anyway.

Chris pulled up on in front of the hotel and opened the door for Melody. She got out and thanked him for driving her. She took her bags and walked to her car, dropping them in the trunk. She got behind the wheel and started driving home. Before she went onto the highway she stopped at a drive-through to buy coke. She never drank anything with caffeine but she needed it now. Falling asleep while driving wasn’t one of the things she wanted to do tonight. She turned up the radio and drank from her coke.

She finally pulled up in her drive way, got her bags out of the trunk and walked up to the front door. She opened the door and dropper her bags by the door, kicked off her shoes and went straight to her bedroom. Melody took her jeans off and looked for the t-shirt she had slept in the night before. She crawled in bed, pulled the covers over her and fell asleep.

At 5.45 Melody’s cell phone alarm went off. She looked around for her phone and found it still in her jeans pocket. She clicked snooze and turned around in bed. Another 5 minutes later it started playing again and Melody reluctantly got out of bed not bothering to stop the song and went to the bathroom. She showered quickly and got dressed. She picked her phone from the bed; she checked for the time and noticed 3 texts. They must have been received when she was sleeping. She checked who sent them and just as she thought they were from Jon. He asked if she got home ok and wished her a goodnight. He had texted another 2 times because she hadn’t answered and apparently had given up after that. Melody typed him an answer telling him she was exhausted and never heard her phone when she went to bed.

An hour after she got up Melody drove back to New York to go to work. She started at 8, so Lori wouldn’t be there yet. Melody was sort of happy she wouldn’t because she still felt tired and didn’t want to answer all the questions she would ask. Melody sat down in the staff room for a few minutes, she was early for her shift anyway and had another few minutes to relax before work. A few minutes before 8 she got up and checked in, she walked to the front desk and started her day.

Just as she thought when Lori got in at 9 she had loads of questions for her. She started out with questions about the show and what songs they played before asking what Melody and Jon had done after the show.
“We didn’t do anything.” Melody said
“Again?” Lori asked surprised. “You know the third date is the sex date.” She continued to explain to Melody.
Melody had to laugh. “Really? How?”
“I don’t know.” Lori admitted, “but Ally on Ally McBeal said it.”
“Well, anyway, we didn’t and we won’t tonight either in case you must know.” Melody said.
“You won’t? Why not? I thought you liked him, or doesn’t he like you?” Lori asked
“I do like him and he likes me too.” Melody said smiling.
“Then why not?” Lori didn’t give up when she wanted to know something.
“Because I got my period.” Melody said sadly, staring at her shoes.
“Oh no, well you can always give him a blow job later.” Lori said optimistic.
Melody gave her a look. “No, I decided to wait till his birthday.”
“Why?”
Melody shrugged. “I don’t know, cause it’s his birthday and it’ll be more special that way? Besides, his birthday is in 5 days anyway.” She explained to Lori.
“Oh that way, you’re giving him one wild night for his birthday.” Lori said understanding.
“Yeah, I guess.” Melody said laughing. “Good I at least have Sunday to buy some stuff then.”
“I’m not going with.” Lori said.
“Wasn’t going to ask you anyway.” Melody said still laughing.

After work Chris picked her up again and brought her to the concert. Melody went into the same changing room to change her outfit before going to Jon’s dressing room. She remembered where it was and was sure she could have found it without Chris’ help. Melody knocked on the door but no answer; she waited a few minutes before knocking again but still didn’t get an answer. Chris had already left her to attend other business and Melody wasn’t sure what she should do. She paced around in front of his door, not bothering to knock again, thinking he wouldn’t be there anyway. Instead she knocked on Richie’s door where she did get an answer and Richie let her in. She explained to him Jon hadn’t opened his door and she had no idea where to look for him. Richie told her he was probably bossing around people and would be back soon. He picked up one of his guitars and started playing some notes. Melody decided to text Jon, he would probably have his phone with him. She sent a text telling him she arrived and asked where he was. She put her phone back in her pocket and waited for an answer. Richie started playing another song and adjusted some strings on his guitar. Melody noticed the set list on the coffee table in front of him and leaned over to look at it when Richie snatched it away.
“Gotta be a surprise.” He explained when Melody gave him a shocked look.
“Why?”
“’Cause it’s no fun if you already know what we’re going to play.” Richie explained to her.
“You don’t know how forgetful I am, I would forget before you start anyway.” Melody said sadly.
“Why? What did you forget? Was it that important?” Richie asked sincere.
Melody nodded, she still felt bad about everything she had forgotten.
“What? Come on, tell me.” Richie encouraged her.
“Everything, I forgot Valentine’s but Jon send me roses. I forget to take today off so I could spend last night with Jon. On top off all that, I forgot to take birth control pill since Monday so now I got my period and can’t spend tonight with him either. And best of all, apparently the 3rd date is the date you have sex on!” Melody explained almost crying and Richie hugged her.
“Don’t be stupid,” He said, “Jon likes you, I know he does. It’s not all about sex.” Richie tried to comfort her.
“But it’s been 5 dates.” Melody said still sounding sad.
“Seriously, Melody, it’s not all about sex. Trust me he likes you, he’ll understand.”
“You think?”She asked with disbelieve.
“Yeah, he’s very understanding. Don’t worry about it. You can make it his birthday present.” He said.
Melody had to laugh at the coincidence she was planning to. “I was thinking that too. I just don’t know how to do it. We’ll be at a hotel right?” She asked and Richie nodded. “So if I take candles and champagne and everything I can make the room before he gets there.” Melody said almost sounding excited.
“There ya go,” Richie said, “We’re having a party that night anyway. You’ll just have to go to your room before he does and you can arrange it all.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Melody said. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, feel better now?” Richie asked as he gave her another hug and Melody nodded. Melody relaxed again, trying to think how she should arrange Jon’s birthday while Richie started playing his guitar again. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and Richie said it was open as Jon already walked in.
“There you are, I couldn’t find you, you didn’t answer my text.” Jon said as he sat down next to her.
Melody took her phone out her pocket. No texts. “Bad connection.” She said. “I knocked on your door twice but you didn’t open.” She explained.
“I couldn’t let her stand out there in the cold all by herself.” Richie added with a smile.
“We’re inside.” Jon said coolly.
“It’s warmer in here than out there.” Richie argued back.
Jon gave up and put his arm around Melody’s shoulder and she let her head rest on his shoulder.

I'm liking how Richie's character is lending his voice of reason. Hopefully, things will work out for Jon and Melody on his birthday.

Pirate--I'm liking the pics you are putting with your story, but of course, any pic with Jon in it is a good one:)
