Chapter 30

The next day went just as usual; Melody dropped everyone off at school and headed for the city.

At lunch Lori decided not to go to the staff room but wanted to go out. They went to the café across the street, it was always busy there during lunch as it was very popular but the food was good so it was worth the wait. There were a few empty tables in the back, they picked one out and order their food.
“So, now tell me about Jon.” Lori started.
“Tell what? I told you yesterday.” Melody said a bit confused.
“No, not the sex, I mean what you feel for him, do you still like him a lot or anything more?” Lori continued curiously, she knew it would be more.
“I do love him.” Melody admitted.
“Aw.” Lori said teasingly.
“Quit it! We’re not in high school you said yesterday.” Melody said.
“I know but I still like bugging you. Does he love you?” Lori asked.
“He does.” Melody said with a big smile.
“I’m so happy for you!” Lori said excited, she was glad Melody finally had found somebody that really loved her.

Jon had been right and the day flew by, she was home before she knew it and got her phone call from Jon. As usual they talked about their days. Jon told her how sound check had gone and Melody told him how work was. When they started talking about Saturday night, Jon told her he’d have a surprise for Tyler and his date and someone would pick them up around 3 already, making them just in time to be there for sound check. Melody thought it sounded great and couldn’t wait to see what the surprise would be.

The next day, just like Jon had said, at 2.45. There was a knock on the door. Tyler opened the door with his girlfriend standing next to him, knowing there’d be a driver.
“Hello, I’m Jimmy, I’ll be driving you to New York’s Madison Square Garden.” Jimmy said politely when the door was open. Melody had walked into the hallway, noticing how dressed up Jimmy was. Last time he was just casual now he was in a black suit.
Tyler’s girlfriend let out a shriek of excitement when they saw the big black limo waiting for them.
Jimmy guided them to the car, holding open the door for them. He smiled politely to Melody, trying to stay in character.

They arrived only an hour later. The whole drive Faith had been quiet while Tyler’s date couldn’t stop about how excited she was. Jimmy opened the door again, even holding out a hand to help everyone out. He handed them their access all area passes, so they could go where they wanted. Melody told Tyler he could do what he wanted after sound check and explained where Jon’s dressing room was, telling him to come say hi before the actual show.

Melody and Faith walked through the big hallways, passing crew people to Jon’s dressing room. She knocked on the door and almost immediately Jon opened the door for her. Resisting the way he wanted to greet her and kissed her on the check instead as Faith watched them both.
“You must be Faith.” Jon said as he looked over at her.
Faith nodded her answer.
“Well it’s really great to meet you.” He said as he stepped away and opened the door more so they could get in.
“We gotta go in a few minutes though.” Jon said to Melody, and then looked back over to Faith. “So have you been to a rock concert before?”
Faith shook her head as an answer.
Jon understood she was shy, so decided to ask a question she would actually have to say something to answer it. “And, how old are you Faith?” He asked gently, squatting down to be on eye level.
“Eight.” She said quietly.
“Eight? You’re as old as my Jakey then. You’d get along with him just great.” He said.
Faith nodded again.

A few minutes later they were on their way to the stage to start sound check and Melody noticed Tyler already sitting front row. Melody decided to let them be and sat at the other end with Faith watching Jon practicing his songs. Everything had gone fine and this time there was no problem with any of the electronic equipment. It took them an hour to finish up and they went back to his dressing room.

When they got to the dressing room, Jon’s youngest brother was standing there asking if Jon had signed those cd’s he had to sign. Jon quickly introduced Matt to Melody and Faith and explained he hadn’t signed any of them yet. Melody noticed how big the stack of pictures and cd’s was that had to be signed and offered to get some supper while Jon put his autograph on everything.

She remembered where they had got their supper last time and walked there with Faith. When they got inside Melody noticed Richie sitting at a table and Tyler and his girlfriend with him. She decided to say hi first before getting her food. Richie noticed her and waved at her.
“I see you already met my son.” Melody said as she got closer to them.
“Yeah Tyler, great kid.” Richie said, “Should be more careful during sports but great kid.”
“Yes he should be.” Melody agreed.
“But Barrons can take it, right?” He asked Tyler, Tyler nodded.
“Sure, but I like him without cuts and bruises.” She said pointing out the black eye he got just like she had said.
“And who’s that pretty young lady you got with you?” Richie asked towards Faith.
Again Faith was shy and answered very quietly.
“You know we have a song like that?” He asked her.
Faith nodded.
“Do you like it?”
Faith nodded again.
“Do you think we should play it tonight then?” Richie asked.
“Yes.” Faith said, louder and more confident than before.

Melody went to get food and Tyler promised he’d be there in 10 minutes. Melody had a plate full for Jon, taking a bit of everything like he had done last time. She walked back to the dressing room asking Faith if she was having fun. Faith said she was but everything was so big it was a bit scary and she didn’t know anybody. Melody told her to just stay close to her and it’ll all be fine.

Jon was still sitting at his table singing away when they walked in. He looked up at them and noticed the food, getting up and sitting down on the couches with them while they ate. Tyler kept to his promise and a few minutes later he knocked at the door, Jon got up to open it.
“Shit, what happened to you?” Jon said as he saw Tyler.
“Hockey puck, it’s just a cut, nothing bad.” Tyler said as he walked in. “This is my girlfriend Heaven. Heaven, obviously, Jon Bon Jovi:” He introduced them.
Jon greeted Heaven, asking if they’ve had supper already. Heaven couldn’t wait any longer and asked if she could have an autograph. Jon handed her one of the cd’s he had been signing and asked if she’d be happy with that.

They hung out in Jon’s dressing room until it was time for Jon to get ready. He told them to go out there already, so they’d be in their seats when he got on. They agreed and Jon kissed Melody goodbye before getting dressed for the show.

He took his blue shirt and black vest out to his quick change room, knowing Melody loved how he looked in it. He grabbed his towel and walked back to the dressing rooms where the rest would be waiting before going onto the stage.

Him and the band did their little huddle and told he them how tonight’s show would be. They broke up and walked to the stage. Tico and David went on the stage as Jon put his clothes away. Richie followed them and as last Jon went on. Just like last time Melody was right in front of him, perfect. He could look at her all night.
