Chapter 40

Melody woke up the next morning in Jon’s arms. His arms were still holding her tightly and Melody had no intentions of getting and snuggled closer to him, he stirred as she did.
“Are you up?” He whispered, not wanting to wake her if she wasn’t.
“Good morning.” She whispered back against his chest.

He looked over Melody’s shoulder and read the bright letters on the clock, 9.36. They’ve had slept for 12 hours, he realized and told Melody, she agreed she felt quite rested too. Not wanting to get up yet, they both decided to stay in bed a while longer before taking a shower and starting their day.

Jon rolled over onto his back and Melody rested against his chest, both looking at the ceiling.
“I don’t like silence like this when I’m not alone.” Melody confessed after a few minutes.
“Why not?”
“I don’t know.” Melody shrugged, just knowing she didn’t like silence when she was with other people.
“Think about it.” Jon said, still staring at the ceiling, waiting to see if she’d answer.
“I always start wondering what the other person is thinking, thinking about me. It makes me uncomfortable.” Melody said hesitantly, but she was quite sure that was the reason.
“I’m thinking I’m very lucky to have you right here with me.” He said and kissed the top of her head. “Don’t worry what other people think; it’s not your business anyway.” He joked.
Melody thought for a second and realized he was right, she shouldn’t worry what people think because it’s their private thoughts and no one’s business, it made sense to her. “You’re right.”
“Of course I am, there’s no reason to feel uncomfortable.” He reassured her with a joke.
Melody knew he was right, she shouldn’t feel uncomfortable, and they loved each other after all. He wouldn’t think anything bad of her anyway, she felt herself more at ease with the silence now.

“Wanna get up now?” Jon asked about 20 minutes later.
Melody looked at the clock, noticing it was past 10 now. “Yeah let’s go bathe.” She said. She got off of Jon and got up; he followed her to the bathroom.
She turned on the hot water and waited for the bath to fill.

When the tub was half full, Jon stepped in, the water way too warm at his feet and turning down the water. He held a hand out to help Melody step in. When she was standing in front of him he sat down and pulled Melody down to sit between his legs, resting back against her. He lifted her hair putting it over her shoulder; she rested her head against his shoulder.

Jon loved the leisurely morning; he knew he only had a week before he would be going back to work. Only 5 more shows until he had a break for a whole month. He couldn’t wait to take Melody on a holiday and having mornings just like this.
“When do you have to go?” Melody asked.
“What do you mean?” Jon asked lost in thought.
“When do you have to be home for your kids?”
Jon started calculating. “They’re at the bus stop at 4.13, 10 minute walk. So I should leave around 2, so I have an hour to clean up.
“Great, 3 more hours then.” Melody felt the water getting colder. “Want some brunch?”

Jon was hungry and would like some food. Melody stood up and out of the bath and grabbed two towels, handing one to Jon as he stepped on the bath mat.

He took the towel from her and dried off, put it around his waist and looked in the mirror. He left the bathroom to get his razor from his bag, he really needed a shave a now he thought. When he walked back in Melody noticed what he was holding.
“Awe, you shaving? I like the scruff.” She said and reached out to his jaw, feeling the scruff.
Jon took her hand and kissed it. “I’ll remember but I do need to shave now.” He said.
Melody was glad enough he’d remember just like he had remembered the outfit she liked and let him shave.

Soon they were both dressed and Melody had prepared brunch. She had made quite a lot, eggs with bacon, buns, juice and some coffee for him. They continued their leisurely morning and took their timing having breakfast. By the time everything was cleaned up again Jon phoned a driver.

30 minutes later the car arrived and they said goodbye by the door again. Jon picked up his bag and went to the car. Melody waved to him as the car drove away.

She went back inside and continued being lazy. She turned on a movie, and lied down on the couch.

Melody heard her phone in the kitchen and paused her movie to check who had texted her. Found your panties! It read and Melody laughed. She pushed some buttons and phoned him.
“Hey.” He said as he answered.
“Found them?” She asked.
“Yeah, they were behind my chair.” Jon said proud that he had found them.
“Oh great.” Melody wasn’t sure what she should say to that.
“I’ll keep them safe, don’t worry.” Jon said, putting them away in the drawer of his night stand. He heard voices coming from the kitchen. “I gotta go, talk to you tonight.” He said as he walked out of his room to the hallway that leads to the open kitchen and living space.
“Ok, tonight, love you”.
“Love you too.” He told her and hung up the phone.

“Who was that?” His youngest boy asked him curiously, he had dropped his bag by the elevator, his jacket over it and was now sitting down to take his shoes off.
“Melody.”
“Your girlfriend?” He asked looking up at his dad.
“Yeah.” Jon said, watching how he kicked his shoes away and got up to give him a hug, Jon hugged him back. “Now put your stuff away.”
He hugged the others and the oldest two went downstairs to their room, to finish their homework. Jon took the youngest two to the dinner table knowing they wouldn’t do it if he wasn’t watching them. Jake sat at the end of the table by himself and Romeo right next to him. Jon kept on encouraging him to concentrate, losing interest or thinking of something he had to tell him every few minutes.
“Come on Romeo; just finish this so I can order dinner.” Jon urged him when Romeo started telling him about the game he had played with his friends during recess.
Romeo looked back at his book and tried to finish it.

An hour had past, Jake had already left and Romeo was finally finished. Jon congratulated him, sent him off playing and went to order pizzas. He found Romeo again, playing in his room, Jon sat down on the floor with him and listened to everything he had to tell him.
