Chapter 29

Jimmy found the way to Melody’s house again and got out to open the door for her and get her bag. Melody said goodbye to Lori and him and went inside. Jimmy got back in the car, to drive Lori a street further.

It was only 3.25 and Ryan was the only one that would be home. Melody dropped her bag in her room and went to check if he was in his room. He asked her how the concert had gone and Melody told him it was amazing, telling him some about the show. She decided to wait to ask if he wanted to go along on Saturday so she could ask the others too. She loved proposing ideas during supper, it was easier, and she could see everyone’s first reactions when she asked something.

Half an hour after everyone got home Melody got ready again to drop Faith and Tyler off. She got in the car on the passenger’s side and gave Tyler the keys to drive. Melody kept an eye on him while he drove. She had been teaching him for a while but he still wasn’t comfortable enough to do his test.

He drove perfectly to the elementary school; she congratulated him on not making any mistakes on the way there. Faith got out of the car and Tyler and Melody waited until she was inside to drive out of the school’s parking lot. When they got to Tyler’s school, Tyler handed the keys back to Melody and got his hockey gear from the trunk. He waved goodbye and went to the arena.

Melody had about an hour time before she would have to pick up Faith again and decided to go grocery shopping, she hadn’t been to the stores last week so there wouldn’t be much left in the house now. When she got to the store her phone rang. She got out of the car as she answered it.
“Hey babe.” She heard on the other end.
“Hey, did you land okay?” She asked him while she got a shopping cart and went inside the store.
“Yeah, everything’s fine. Just got to the hotel, the bed’s empty.” He said sadly.
“Awe, that sucks. You can come spend time in my bed Sunday night.” Melody said soothingly.
“Sounds great. Richie told me about a steakhouse, you wanna go there?”
“Steak? Yeah, sounds great.” Melody said putting the steak she had just picked up back in the cooler, taking something else out.
“Great, I’ll make reservations for 7. Did you ask them yet about Saturday?” Jon asked.
“Not yet, tonight, I’ll let you know what they say.” Melody said as she walked around the store almost aimlessly, paying more attention to Jon than to her shopping.
“Great, I’ll be waiting for you call tonight.” Jon said.

Melody hung up her phone and put it back in her pocket after saying goodbye. She finally got to her shopping and looked for everything she needed. When she got some ice cream, she saw the cans of whipped cream and couldn’t resist taking one with her. She paid at the register, packed everything up and went back to pick up Faith.

She was already waiting outside and hurried to the car. She immediately started talking about the new song she had learned, explaining to Melody how to play it even though Melody didn’t play any instruments. Faith explained how the song went and how it was difficult at first but by the end of the hour she got it.

Together they drove to the arena to pick up Tyler. Melody got out of the car so she could let him drive until she saw his face.
“What happened?” She asked him worried taking a look at the slash under his eye.
“Nothing, just a puck that went flying.” He said as it was nothing important.
“That’s not nothing, that’s a big cut!” Melody said as she took a closer look.
“It’s fine.” Tyler said as he walked around the car, knowing Melody wouldn’t let him drive now. Melody was far more worried about the cut on his face, she knew hockey came with accidents but she didn’t like that part of it.
She got back in the car and drove back home.

Tyler and Faith helped her unloading the groceries when they got home and Melody got an ice pack from the freeze when she put the ice cream away first, handing it to Tyler. He still thought it was fine but Melody insisted him to put ice on it, or he’d have a black eye. He finally gave in and took it and went to watch TV.

During supper when Melody had everyone at the table she decided not to wait and start the conversation asking if they wanted to go to the concert on Saturday night. She hadn’t had any idea how they would react and they didn’t, they all thought for a second. Until J spoke up and said they had agreed to meet Jon next week. He immediately decided not to go and therefore Ryan decided not to go either. Melody didn’t make a point out if it, knowing they might not want to go. She looked over at Tyler and Faith. Tyler said he didn’t mind as he already met Jon and Faith would love to go.

After supper everyone had left and Melody was just about to phone Jon when Tyler came back and asked if he could take a date to the concert. Telling how much of an impression he would make if he brought his girlfriend to a concert at MSG and were allowed backstage. Melody told him he’d ask Jon first and would tell him later. He left again and Melody could phone.
“Hey, what did they say? Do I get to see you on Saturday?” Jon got to the point immediately.
Melody explained only Tyler and Faith wanted to come, the other 2 wanted to stick to next week. Jon understood they weren’t ready yet and was happy Tyler and Faith would come.
“Tyler asked me if he could bring a date, he says a concert at MSG and backstage would make a big impression. What do you think?” She asked him, not sure how he would feel about it.
“Yeah, sure, I’ll make sure she’ll get to meet the whole band when you get here.” Jon said, not making a problem out of it.
“Really? Tyler will be so happy you’ll do that.” Melody said happily.
“Are you working tomorrow?” Jon asked.
“Yes, I am.” Melody confirmed.
“I’ll phone you right after sound check then, you’ll be home by then. I’ll send someone again to pick you up, and then you don’t have to drive after the concert, safer.” He said.
“I can drive after a concert Jon; I know how to drive when it’s dark.” Melody laughed.
“But think of Tyler’s date, how impressed she will be. How much does he like this girl?” He asked curiously.
“They’ve been together for almost 2 years so I think they like each other a lot.” Melody explained to him.
“Jocks, they always get girls.” Jon said.
“Rock stars get them too.” Melody pointed out.
“Yeah, but I only need one.” He answered.
Melody smiled to herself. “I love you.”
“I love you too. I can’t wait to see you Saturday.” He said.
“I miss you already.” Melody sounded sad.
“We’ll see each other soon, it’s only 2 days and tomorrow will fly by.” Jon tried to comfort her. “I wish I could just hold you right now.” He said looking over at the empty bed again.

They hung up after saying goodbye and Melody went downstairs to tell the good news to Tyler, who immediately got his phone out and started texting his girlfriend.
