Chapter 42

They arrived home just in time for the Saturday night movie they always watched together. The kids watched the beginning of the movie while Melody and Jon lingered in the kitchen making popcorn and getting sodas.
“I probably should go soon.” Melody told him when she got the sodas from the fridge.
“No you shouldn’t, we have a movie to watch.”
“You sure? I might fall asleep again.”
“You won’t, I’ve been up longer than you, so you won’t.”
“It’s not a competition of who got up the earliest.” Melody told him.
“8.” Jon said with a smile, quite proud.
“That early?! Why?” Melody asked him surprised; she knew he loved sleeping in as much as she did.
“We got 10 million Facebook fans this morning, didn’t you know? We uploaded a pic and made video’s but Matt’s uploading those later, so the fans have a video every day. Thursday we’ll say something at the concert.” Jon explained to her.
“I haven’t been on Facebook.” Melody confessed.
“Well you know what I look like and thank you for being a fan. There’s your video.” He said and got the popcorn from the microwave.

When she sat down next to him on the couch she noticed the popcorn wasn’t burned and grabbed a hand full. Jake and Romeo enjoyed the movie and both sat with their dad, Melody next to one of them. Melody didn’t mind, she knew the boys hadn’t seen their dad in a while and let them be with him. During the commercial Jon got up, put the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table and went to the bathroom.

He came back to the living room and was just in time for the movie to start again, he lifted Romeo off the couch and put him down next to Melody so he could sit with her. Romeo protested and Jon told him he wanted to sit with her now and Romeo had 2 choices so he decided to be quiet and watch the movie, which Jon thought was a smart choice.

Melody had read in magazines that he said he was a strict parent, as far up to now, it showed he was. She didn’t mind, she was quite loose with her kids, she thought and had always thought Robert was stricter with the kids.

The movie finished an hour later and Jon sent them both to bed, they said good night to them and Romeo popped a question.
“Where are you sleeping?” He asked Melody.
Melody chuckled, “I’m going home soon.”
“Why? You can sleep here, daddy has a big bed.”
The innocent mind of a six year old Melody thought.
“He used to share it with mum though. I’d like a big bed like that.” He said and started leaving, “You should ask him, daddy always says we have to share.” and he was gone.

“Is your big bed all empty?” Melody teased Jon.
“Actually it is but lately I’ve had you. It’s up to you though.” He shrugged, he got up again and made some coffee, when he had his cup he asked if Melody wanted something too but she still had her drink. He sat back down with her and switched to another channel. “I have to wait up for Steph and Jess so I can spend more time with you.” He explained with a smile.
Melody didn’t mind at all and cuddled closer to him on the couch.

Closer to midnight the two teens both got home and sat down with them on the couch, not going to bed just yet.
Jon turned to Melody, “So do you still want to drive home?”
It was getting late and Melody was getting tired, she didn’t really want to drive for an hour now. “Not really.”
“I can share.” He said with a smile, he had planned to keep her longer so she didn’t want to drive anymore. “Come on, let’s go sleep.” He stretched his arms and motioned for Jesse and Stephanie to get going.
“Are you sure they won’t mind?” She whispered.
“I’m the parent here;” he said a bit stern, “want me to go ask them first?” He whispered back.
Melody wasn’t sure if she wanted him to, she almost did but she wasn’t sure.
“Ok then.” He got up and followed them downstairs. He called for them and asked if they minded to see Melody in the morning too, hoping they wouldn’t.

“Come on, my big bed is empty.” He said as he came up the stairs again.
Melody got up and followed him to his bedroom.

Sunday mornings were the same as at Melody’s house, kids always got up too early. There was a knock at the door and followed by Jake walking in. Jon sat up and waited for him to say something but he turned around and left. Jon grunted and got up, put on the sweatpants that were on his chair and told Melody he’d be right back.

He walked to the living room assuming Jake would be watching tv but he wasn’t there. Jon looked around to the kitchen, didn’t see him and went downstairs, not in the den either and went to his bedroom. He finally found him sitting on his bed. Jon waited by the door and asked if he could come in, Jake shrugged. Jon walked in and closed the door behind him; he sat down on the end of the bed and asked him what was up.
“You used to sleep with mum, why was she in your bed?” Jake asked him.
Jon grunted, Jake hadn’t said he minded to meet Melody, he thought a second, and this wasn’t the same as meeting her. “Come here Jake.” Jon said as he moved up the bed, he wasn’t sure what to ask, not really sure what was wrong. He sighed. “What’s wrong with that, it’s just a bed, you’ve shared yours before.”
“Dad!” He whined, “You know it’s different for mommies and daddies! Don’t you love mommy anymore then?”
Jon sighed again; he thought he had been through this with them. “I still love mommy.”
“Then why isn’t she here and Melody is?” He asked.
“Jakey, it’s been 2 years, you know why mom left.” Jon tried.
This time Jake sighed. “But I don’t like him.” He complained. “I want to stay with you, here.”
“I’m sorry kid, daddy has to work but I promise spring break, you’re staying with me the whole week.”
“With Melody?” He asked and Jon nodded. “It’s ok.” He said.
“Are you sure? I thought you liked her?” Jon asked.
Jake nodded, “I like her she’s nice…”
“You just didn’t expect her there?” Jon asked him and Jake nodded. Jon hugged him and got up from the bed, and told him to come up for breakfast in an hour or so.

Jon went back into his bedroom and crawled in bed reaching for Melody.
“I need a hug.” He said.
Melody moved over to give him a hug. “What did he say?”
“He’s ok; he just didn’t expect you here.” Jon explained.
Melody felt sort of relieved, he just hadn’t expected her it wasn’t like he didn’t like her then.
