Chapter 41

On Saturday, early afternoon Melody arrived at Jon’s building, she had been nervous all morning to meet the children, not sure if they would like her and how they would react to her. Jon hadn’t told her how the kids had reacted when he told them about her but Melody guessed he would have said something if they hadn’t liked it, he wouldn’t let them meet if they weren’t ready yet, she hoped. She tried to relax, not worrying about it, it would be just fine, and everything would work out. She stepped into the elevator, waiting for it to open the doors at the penthouse floor, into Jon’s kitchen.

Jon got up from the table where he was working on his laptop and walked over to Melody who had stopped by the door, still nervous, he greeted her with a kiss and explained the kids were downstairs, they knew she was coming so they would come and check for themselves in a few minutes so Melody could relax a bit first and stop being nervous.

He still had to finish some things on his laptop and Melody sat with him waiting for him when they heard voices on the stairs.
“That’s Jake.” Jon said recognizing the voice.
“Oh” Melody said a bit nervous.
“And he’s not happy.” Jon said.

Jake got upstairs and Jon was right.
“Dad!” Melody recognized the voice now too, she had heard it yell the exact same thing a few weeks ago when she was on the phone with Jon
“What?” He called back.
Jake followed his voice and walked into the room. “Jesse won’t let me play a videogame.” He complained.
“Why not?”
“Cause he’s playing and he says I have to wait.” Jake explained.
“Then wait and come meet Melody.” Jon said, Jake always wanted what he wanted when he wanted it, he had to learn to wait for things. Jon pulled out the chair next to him for him to sit on.

Jake did as he was asked and down, Jon closed his laptop as Jake said hi to Melody. Melody made small talk with him, asking how school was and what he had done and asked him what game he wanted the play that Jesse wouldn’t let him. Jake was polite and answered all the questions even asking Melody some.

They talked for a while until Jon started noticing Jake got bored and told him to get the rest so they could meet Melody too. Jake got up from his chair and ran downstairs.
“He’s sweet.” Melody said when he had ran off
“Yeah, he’s a good boy.” Jon said.

A few minutes later Jake came back upstairs with the rest following him. Jon introduced them to Melody and pointed each one out for her saying their names.
“So do you guys want to do something or hang around here?” Jon asked them, leaving it up to them if they wanted to do something.
“We can go to the movies!” Romeo said excited, he had wanted to see a movie and had already asked his dad the day before.
Jake still wanted to play the video game and Jesse and Stephanie weren’t very interested in going out.
Jon discussed it with them and they decided to go see the movie Romeo wanted to see.

Stephanie took Jon’s laptop to look up the time it was playing and ordered tickets for the showing in an hour.

Jesse said he’s let Jake play until they had to leave and they both went back downstairs, Romeo followed them, wanting to see the game and Jon and Melody were alone with Stephanie.

Stephanie had a lot of questions for Melody asking her where she worked; surprised it was so close by. She asked if she had been college, she wanted to know how college was Melody talked about her college years, telling her how fun it was to be away from how but there were responsibilities too but she had loved those years. Stephanie was glad with the answer and asked if she had any kids too and had been married before. Melody thought she should be honest and told her she had been married before and had 4 kids. Stephanie made big eyes asking her if she really had 4 children, saying it would be busy if they’d go out together.

When Stephanie was all done asking question, Jon thought it was time to go and got the boys ready.

When everyone was ready they got in the car and Jon drove to the theatre, getting 6 tickets for the new animated children’s movie that was released last week.

After the movie Jon took them all to a restaurant for dinner. They were assigned a 6 person table and Jon and Melody sat at the ends of the table, the kids in the middle. They had asked Melody all their questions and were now talking about things they liked. How they did at school, sports and clubs they were in. Melody loved hearing what the kids were like and their interests, she knew it would come in handy during other conversations.

They finished their dinner at the restaurant and Jon decided to go to the nearby park. There was a play park so Jake and Romeo could play for a while. It was Saturday night and Jesse and Stephanie asked if they could leave, they still wanted to go out with some friends. Jon let them go and told Melody of his idea about the park. Jesse and Stephanie left and Melody and Jon took the little ones to the park.

The boys ran off as soon as Jon said they could and he and Melody walked over to the swings and watched them play.
“So what do you think?” Jon asked her standing with the swing ready to take his feet off the ground.
“They’re wonderful, all of them. I thought they wouldn’t like me, a new woman in your life, they might be jealous, but they’re great.” Melody said relieved, backing up her swing, not yet releasing either.
“They were fine with meeting you, so it wouldn’t have been a problem. Don’t worry that much.” He tried to comfort her, putting his hand on her knee.
“You’d be nervous too. I’ve never been this far in a relationship before.” Melody said honestly. Most men left when she said she had 4 children and she never heard of them again.
“Same for me.” Jon said, “I’ve been busy with the tour and stuff but mainly first and second dates. Most weren’t even real anyway.” He knew they weren’t, men were always known to just want sex but a lot of girls were just the same, they knew he was famous and they liked the idea of that.
“We got each other now.” Melody said, happy she had him. She’d been dreaming of him for years knowing it wasn’t possible and never thought it could happen.
“And that’s a lot for love?” Jon asked her.
“Well you should know that.” Melody joked finally letting her feet go and swung away as Jon followed her when she started laughing.

Some way, I'm having trouble with getting into my google account. I was trying to say that this chapter is not boring. You're building relationships with the characters. I was reading this thinking about what would happen when Jon and Melody's children come together in the same room.
Believe me, not boring at all.
