Chapter 46

Melody rushed to the other side of the kitchen to hug Jon, to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry, I have no idea why he said that." Melody started, not really knowing what to say next. She hadn't expected any behaviour like that from him. He knew Jon was coming over today and she wondered what had pissed him off like that.
"Does he have a girlfriend?" Jon asked her.
Melody looked up at him, wondering what he was thinking. "Yeah."
"Then I think she cheated on him or at least broke up with him." He explained.
"Really?" She wondered, Jon nodded, almost sure it was that. "I should go talk to him then." Melody said and let go of Jon but he pulled her back.
"No, leave him, he's just angry, he doesn't want to talk." He said. "Trust me, I'm a guy too." He added when she looked at him with disbelieve.
Melody decided to trust him.
"Jon Richie huh?" He asked her. "So you do know me?"
"Yeah, I know, I'm a crazy fan, I just tried to hide it at least a bit so you wouldn't think I'm weird." She sounded a bit upset.
"Oh Melody," He tried to sooth her. "I don't think you're weird at all. I actually liked you pretending not to know me, that's a lot better than people that think they know me."

They went back to the living room to finished their movie. They both weren't very interested anymore and started talking over it as soon as Melody pressed play.
"When's Tyler's birthday?" Jon remembered his idea and told her about it, waiting to see how she would like the idea.
"Really? You'd do that? He would love that!" Melody said excited for her son.
"Yeah of course, I'd take Steph and Jesse, so why not?"
"That's really nice of you." Melody said, knowing Tyler would love it, like Ryan said, he loved all sports so it would be great. She wasn't sure if she should mention J was a bigger football fan than Tyler.
"Does Tyler play football?" Jon wondered, Tyler had left for hockey practice, it wasn't football season at school anymore but he still wondered.
"Yeah, fall he plays football, winter hockey and spring baseball."
"Oh he does it all."
"Yeah and he's a prospect for the Devils. He's on the Albany Devils waiting for the NHL."
"Wow, he's busy." Jon said amazed. "And talented."
Melody nodded, and turned her attention back to the movie.
"Are you staying for dinner? We're having spaghetti."
"Yeah I'll be staying." He said, not wanting to decline spaghetti.

About an hour later Melody turned off the tv. They had watched the rest of it while still talking about the kids. Melody was talking about their interests and Jon could pick up on a few saying his kids liked the same things. Both thought the kids would have to meet before they went on holidays and Melody told him her idea about Hawaii. She knew he liked St. Barth's but Hawaii was warm too and she would be able to go. Jon liked her idea and would really have to contact somebody the next day to get her a passport. Melody would have to ask Rob if the kids could stay with him in June then. Jon explained her how long he would be touring and when he would be leaving so she could arrange her plans too. Melody was excited to go with him, not only the touring would be great, but being with him every day sounded like heaven too. She loved being around him and hoped she would get to see him more in April when he wasn't touring.

Now that she had found the love of her life, the one she always thought was perfect just for her and had always believed it would never happen, now she had found him, she wouldn't let him go. She loved that he had a passion for music, she had always loved music but he had been her passion. His passion for sports she didn't share with him, but they couldn't have everything in common either.

Melody got up to start the spaghetti and asked Jon if she should go talk to her son now.
Jon shook his head and told her not to but offered he could.
Melody found it a bit weird he wanted to go talk to him but again Jon pointed out he was a guy. Melody told him she was very sure he was and let him go. She told him where the downstairs bedroom was and watched him leave the kitchen. She followed him and stood next to the stair case so he couldn't see her, she listened to what he did.

There was a knock at the door and the door creaked as he opened it. "Jon?" He asked, not sure what to say.
She heard a muffled voice, probably J explaining he wanted to be called J and not after her mum's obsession.
"Ok, J, can we talk?" The door shut.
Melody grunted and went back to the kitchen; she wanted to know what Jon would say to him but hoped them talking would help.

Later they all sat at the dinner table together, just like when they went out with Jon's kids, Melody and Jon sat at the head of the table. They talked more about school, telling Jon about their schools and sports when J said he couldn't wait for college, to play college football. Jon told him to persist and that his son was hoping the same thing.
"Did you play football in high school?" He asked Jon. After their talk Jon had come back upstairs, he told Melody J had apologized and he was right about his girlfriend cheating on him. Melody felt bad for her son but it was one of the mean things in life he’d had to go through.
“Yeah, until senior year, I busted my knee.” Jon told him, remembering the game he had done it. It was a big game, important for the school, and halfway through he hurt his leg. He had felt so stupid to hurt himself at such an important game.
“What did you do?” Tyler wanted to know.
“Pulled my ligaments, it was the end of the semester so that was my last game.” Jon had loved playing on the high school team, when he actually could and wasn’t performing.
Tyler and J both made a painful face, having heard how much it hurt to pull them, or worse, tear them.

Jon left after dinner; he was leaving for Texas the next day. He kissed Melody goodbye at the front door and walked to his car.

Just a minute later there was a knock at the door and Melody got up to answer the door.
“You forgot your picture.” He said while holding out the frame to her.
Melody took it from him, looking at the picture. “Thanks, I would have missed it.”
Jon said goodbye again and this time Melody watched him drive away before going back inside.

She put the picture frame on her night stand, on her side of the bed. That way he’d be there every morning and every evening, just like he would be soon enough when they go to Hawaii.

Melody went downstairs, telling Tyler to leave the room so she could talk to J alone. She remembered when he was little, so sweet, she could still call him Jon, until a few year later, he found out who he was named after, then switching to JR and Melody accidentally told him what Richie stood for, he had given up and just accepted J. He hated his name and had told Melody millions of times. Her oldest used to be so sweet but high school changed it all, but what he did tonight was not acceptable, at all. Upstairs, the rest could hear Melody yelling at him that he was lucky Jon was such a nice person to already forgive him. J didn’t say a thing, he knew he was wrong and didn’t protest when Melody grounded him until the next school break.

Melody was right to get on him about his behavior. Jon seems so cool at parental instincts in this chapter. Thumbs up!!!
